8 Steps to a Relaxing, At-Home Bath Experience

I’m writing this by the Las Vegas airport, headed home following a 36-hour trip to LA.. I am ready and beat to be home, sleeping in my bed. In times like these I crave silent isolation. I’m not one to check into the spa for a massage or even a decorative — for me, unwinding occurs best in a place.

That familiar place is currently soaking in a hot, relaxing bath. The body and mind relaxes, hydrates skin and dissolves stress. Oh, and it is basically free — a bonus because that’s just one less thing to stress out about.

What does it take to produce the perfect soaking experience? Well, here are a couple ideas…

How to Get a Relaxing Bath

1. Toss your towel robe in the drier.

A clean and clean towel and robe are crucial to a bath experience. Ideally, you’d clean your towel robe just before you choose the tub.

If that’s not realistic (and let’s face it, it is not), the next best thing would be to throw your towel and robe in the dryer for 10 minutes until you step into your own toilet. Since stepping into a fluffy and toasty robe from a bath is just nothing short of dreamy.

2. Select your timing.

You can not hop in the tub when you have a bunch of to-dos hanging on your head if you’re genuinely going to unwind. You are going to be trying to force a calm frame of mind, and that never works.

You should time your bath just after you have finished an important undertaking, although you do not need to complete your to-do listing. Think about for marking another thing the downtime your benefit.

3. Set the scene, addressing the senses.

Baths are sensory experiences, and they’re most enjoyable when you address each of your five senses. Below are some ideas, although the water takes care of the touch aspect.

  1. Sight.  Candles change the scene up on your bathroom. They add a soft glow that tones down life’s difficult edges.
  2. Taste.  Bring snacks or your own go-to drink to the experience. I like a club soda with or without the vodka. I’m not a drinker, but I imagine that would also complement a warm tub. Red wine as you may get overheated.
  3. Audio.  Try a relaxing playlist or the sound of ocean waves gently crashing on the shore (courtesy of a meditation app). You may also listen to and enjoy the sound of your tub filling.
  4. Smell.  A scented candle or chamomile oils work flawlessly. You might even release several sprays of air freshener. The secret is to create a scent that’s only a little different from your toilet odor that is normal.

4. Draw on your bath.

The guideline is to run the water a little hotter than you can sit for the first half of this tub, then turn the water cooler, although every woman likes her own temperature.  Just fill the tub about 1/2 complete. That way, you have room to add water while you’re in the tub.

5. See to the water.

Oils operate double-time. Theysmell great and’ll sooth your skin. Better yet, reach for an aromatherapy bath oil, which can calm the body and mind.

6. Employ your facial.

You are likely to sit for the next 20 minutes or so. Why not use a deep moisturizing or clarifying facial mask?

7. Grab a book that is fantastic.

Have difficulty doing nothing. The amusing thing is we are better at getting things done once we allow ourselves downtime.

Reading is my way to enjoy”doing nothing” How I see it, studying something experiencing life from the perspective of someone else is successful. Thus, even though I am not performing organizing my closet or doing laundry, I’m still doing something.

8. Towel and moisturize dry.

Rinse off, pat dry with your towel and then apply your favorite moisturizer. The lotion will feel like it’s locking leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth.
