Long Hair Over 40: Is it Age-Appropriate?

Issue of the day:  is long hair (beyond the shoulders) over 40 age-appropriate?

In the past few months, long-haired 40+ celebs such as Aniston and Kristin Chenoweth have stepped out in considerably shorter’dos.

Aniston got a bob”out of boredom” and Chenoweth obtained a pixie cut because of her admiration of Charlize Theron’s brief style in addition to for upcoming characters.  Sigh.  As I close the 40-year-old stage in my life myself sporting below-the-shoulder longer layers, their changes got me thinking: is long hair over 40 age-appropriate?

I knowI know:  suitable for what?  Well, a listing of things.  For the work environment, for our facial features (which eyeroll* change as we age), for the ease of not plucking long strands out of our lip gloss when there’s a breeze.   Does hair that is long pull down us personally and professionally?

The”debate” is not anything new.  Some say long hair over 40 is acceptable, beautiful and a matter of personal preference.  If it works for you, go for it!  Others say it is unprofessional and that some girls latch on to long locks as their only claim to feel amazing fame,”covering” everything else up.

My Take on the “Long Hair Over 40” Conundrum

I don’t view the hair over 40 problem as an issue.  At least not when it comes to professionalism.    It is, nevertheless, an issue when it comes to convenience (that is the case at any age).  For me personally, it’s a relationship.

I have worn my long hair in a ponytail more frequently than not.  I’m frequently jolted to this yank once my mind turn out of my sleep thanks.  The car windows’ve rolled up on my own hair.  My overactive mind imagines myself in 10 years, hair long enough to use as a jump rope,  and neighbors who disperse”she is a witch” rumors.

At moments like that I consider a reversal of Aniston proportions and spend a Lot of time pinning my greatest layers upward and striking poses for it:

Ah, who am I kidding?  I am sure I will keep it how it is and manage the relationship.  My hair doesn’t make me any more or less no matter what my age.   I enjoy how I could change my longer’do, the way my hair moves in the point in a ponytail and how it smells like a massive bouquet of flowers (even if it does adhere with my own lip gloss).  I really like it, I truly do.

Then again, if I have pull on another strand out of my latte mug, coffee shop customers might witness an epic tantrum involving muffin screaming and pitching.  Which of course, is unprofessional for a woman my age.
