The Costco Wedding Dress: Could You Do It?

Let me preface this by placing the record straight: I love Costco.

As a petite frugalista with grandparents who lived through poverty and war and parents who rewash bags, Costco was my foray into consumerism and funding shopping. A lot of my childhood was spent generously helping me meandering throughout the aisles of the warehouse and enlarging my book set. Where else can you buy a ginormous box of Playtex tampons, a party platter of California rolls, Rolex coffins and watches all in 1 place? (Yes, I’ve obtained all the aforementioned…well, minus the Rolex and the coffin.)

I’ve appeared to Costco for clothing, jewelry and other fashion items that you may not turn to Costco for, although sure, many folks rely on Costco for peanut butter jugs and cleaning supplies. Therefore, while I had heard rumors that Costco sold wedding gowns, I was amazed to find a wedding dress on display.

Do not get me wrong. There wasn’t anything wrong with the dress. In fact, it had been quite pretty. Still, there’s something about seeing a pretty wedding gown against a tawdry red curtain alongside people returning bathroom cleaning provides that made me go,”No freaking way.”

I get clothing all of the time in Costco, thrift shops, no-name stores, etc.. And in general, I am indifferent to artists and labels as I enjoy what I see. Yet, there’s something about getting my wedding dress in Costco that turns me off, and that I can not quite put my finger on it. I mean, much like designer capsule collections which are oh-so-vogue these days, Costco’s bridal line is”designer,” and it is not as if the dresses have a scarlet”C” written across the bodice.
