What’s Trending Today
The tendencies can be good to us, or they may be bad. Recall in the’80s, when Madonna convinced us that lacy, fingerless gloves were cool and edgy? Yeah, that.
But 30 decades later, we quick to mimic a bold celebrity look or embrace the alluring fashion. Some of these trends have the makings of a classic, though others will end up at the back of the cupboard with your gloves. Read on for a reality check on what is trending!
The Great: Fashion Trends We Enjoy
Feminist T-shirts
$19, missguided Feminism T-Shirt, ASOS
It is all about girl power! Feminism tees began popping up this year and they are most definitely having a moment. Go with a bold statement of your allegiance, or even a have a softer stance (such as,”we women stick together”) — it is up to you.
Box Bags
Women Elegant PU Handbag Bag, $25
Meghan Markle kicked off the box bag fad when she stepped out taking out a tricolor bag by Strathberry. And the masses responded in a flash. Markle’s luggage, that retails for #455 (about $600) sold out online in 11 minutes.
If you were not fast enough or wealthy enough to find that bag, start scouring the Internet for dupes. There are many great ones but give it time.
Statement Coats
ASOS Faux Fur Jacket with Varsity Stripes, $103, ASOS
If we must have the cold, then we need to have a coat to ease the suffering. This year’s winter jacket choice delivers on pattern, color and feel — and sometimes all three at once. Go as bold as it is possible to handle, because the options are out there!
Party Flats
$99, blue by Betsey Johnson Joy Flat, Belk
Yes, the traditional pump has its own appeal for dressier events. But while you kick off those heels one hour? It is time to try out a set of glittery apartments instead.
The Ugly: These Trends? Not So Much
Crystal Brooches
Unik Occasions 5016 Rhinestone Amazon, Crystal Brooch, $ 8
Yes, the brooch is something, but I just don’t get it! They’re gaudy and they hang on fabrics that fold or don’t pucker. And you would not catch me pinning rhinestone art.
Denim Chaps
Jaded London Festival Denim Chaps, $103, ASOS
Yeah, Demi and Gigi attempted this appearance. (And I’ve this mother voice in my mind saying,”if Gigi or Demi jumped off a cliff…?) If you’ve got confidence and the bod to rock this appearance more power to you. Personally, I’d rather wear my fingerless gloves.
The Bad: Umm, No Thanks
Satin Bodysuits
$26, Fundamental Black Satin Bodysuit, Missguided
Satin feel to it and has a lavish look. That is the positive of it. The negative? Satin is a confidence killer. It reveals every bulge, blemish and dimple. It creases. It clings but doesn’t stay put. One made of satin, although I am able to wear a bodysuit? Nope. That is not for me personally.
Wedge Sneakers
ASH Thelma Ter Womens Wedge ASH, Sneaker Black Leather, $100
Why, whywhy? Wedges are fabulous. Sneakers are all amazing. There’s no need for a sneaker-wedge mash-up. You end up with a less comfortable sneaker or a wedge. It’s a lose, lose.
