Cold-Weather Gear to Put on Your Holiday Wish List
Thank you to Nike for working with this post about cold-weather equipment. All comments are my own.
Spanish novelist Miguel de Unamuno once said that man dies of coldness, not of darkness. This time of year, these words talk to me more in the literal sense in relation to the figurative one. In the last week, temperatures in St. Louis have dipped as low as 29 — and also for that SoCal native, whatever below 55 is pretty embarrassing.
When Life Takes You Out
I’m not the type of girl who can bundle up and/or stay inside until April. I am a runner who gets bored on an equestrian who’s pretty much hooked on riding and the treadmill. So while I really like the imagination of piling up with puffers and scarves and beanies, that strategy fails me sometimes. Running bundled up is miserable. When I jumped on wearing a puffer, and, my horse could unsaddle me.
I am not the kind that is sit-at-home! That is me and my husband after we conquered the wall at a mud last summer run.
Me on my horse. It is an indoor stadium, but it still gets chilly!
Thus, when I recently had the chance to try cold weather gear and tech fleece out, I jumped at it. I have been a Nike wearer over the years — my Frees have many walking miles on these, and that I have two Nike sweatshirts I’d classify as old favorites. Plus a few running shirts and sports bras I have picked up through the years. However, the reality is, I do not buy Nike equipment since it seems just a splurgy.
Wishing for Warmth
Where my holiday wish list comes in, that’s — I turn to it if cash gift or a random gift card comes my way, and it’s a list of spendy wardrobe upgrades. Equipment has a permanent spot on that wish list. And now that I’ve added a new Nike pieces to my collection, I’ll just say it: if you love being busy and hate being cold, then you might put Nike gear on your holiday wish list.

Joggers for Any Event
What is not to love about a pair of sweatpants you can wear with heels? Seriously, joggers are the pant. They also do the job for more dressy occasions too, although I wear them as casual athleisure.

I’m always looking for pieces to rep with my Battlegrounds at Cedar Lake t-shirt — I crawled through sand for that top — and of course, these joggers are just perfect.

You don’t need to become a Kardashian to wear joggers. Just err on the conservative side (read as: don’t wear stiletto platforms). I enjoy these with kitten heels and a cardigan.
Tops for Play and Sport
Nike Tech Fleece Joggers, $69.97 (available ) and Tech Fleece Long-Sleeve Top, $89.97, Nike
A fast Kaldi’s coffee run has me in the sweatshirt that was most wonderful I’ve ever possessed. It fits like a nice sweater with a cowl neck that doubles as a gaiter and a hemline.
Nike Miler Long Sleeve Nike, Running Top, $45
To get a run outdoors, I want serious wear like this Nike Miler top. It has a high neckline for extra warmth, and it’s not that clingy fit that pervasive with workout clothing — a fantastic thing for the old broad like me! I expect to have tons of use out of this piece in the coming months on the road and in the stables.
