Fall 2014 Pantone Color Guide

By now we all know that the all-powerful color gods at Pantone (our fantasy occupation ) have crowned”Radiant Orchid” as 2014’s Color of the Year, so it just stands to reason the provincial hue leads the lineup to get Pantone’s best colors for Fall of 2014. Can we normally think of orchid for collapse? Um, not really, which explains precisely why we adore it so much — and it’s not the only departure from those ho-hum totally expected autumn tones on the seasonal list.

Think”Mauve Mist”,”Bright Cobalt” and”Sangria” — that says your fall wardrobe has to match the autumn foliage? We say stand out, and seemingly Pantone has our back. For traditionalists, there are the somewhat milder but still-expected”Aurora Red” and”Misted Yellow”, in addition to a fairly almost-jewel-tone”Cypress” green.

But, as we know, color trends come and go, so how do we remain on-trend without needing to reinvest in an entire new wardrobe every season (as if that were a chance on our budget)? If you’re a long-time TBF reader (love ya!) , you probably understand the three-fold answer–shoes, accessories, outerwear. Think fundamental neutrals, using an abysmal scarf and bright cobalt blue earrings–or fundamental neutrals using aurora red booties and a misted yellow clutch–or fundamental neutrals with a sangria cuff and Cypress belt… well, you get the idea. Want to go a little bigger? A cardigan or jacket is a way to boost an outfit with a blast of Pantone color.
