How to Shop Macy’s — 8 Ways to Save
Countless millions of people shop at Macy’s. The department store chain uses its 750 retail locations plus Macys.com to deliver a wide assortment of style, accessory and beauty items to fashionistas and fashionistos around the world. What Macy’s gives us huge selection and big sales — however, the sales come so fast and furious that it’s somewhat overwhelming. I’m sharing this guide.
To acquire value from your Macy’s shopping sprees, follow these 8 rules.
#1 Join Plenti
Macy’s has just two dedication applications, Macy’s Star Rewards and Plenti. Since it’s connected with your Macy’s charge card I’d advise against Star Gains — and I do not think in store charge cards. (It is way too easy to spend too much when you’ve got a different credit report for every store.)
You may combine Plenti with a Macy’s credit card. Plenti is a coalition loyalty program, which basically means that you can make and spend your loyalty points in locations. For instance, you spend them in Macy’s and might earn points. You’ll do well with Plenti as:
- You’ll earn double points when shopping at Macy’s.
- You may use your points at the register to cover all or part of your Macy’s purchases.
#2 Shop a Season Behind
Macy’s carries a ton of inventory, which means big sales. I purchased a versatile and warm Calvin Klein winter coat in February for $50. The jacket has served me well it’s been my go-to outerwear between December and March for 2 years.

#3 Go to the Clearance Racks First
Before you head to the products, hit the clearance racks. And, if you’re really ambitious, head to a Macy’s that’s somewhat outside the beaten path. The clearance rack selections tend to be better in the Macy’s places beyond the city.
The key to clearance-rack shopping is patience. Ensure you’re not in a hurry and keep looking. Assume that something in your size was put in the wrong place and perform a spot check of dimensions. This attention to detail is always rewarded with a gem of a deal.
#4 Use the Price Scanner
Any store with a lot of stock is going to get pieces set away in the wrong places. You don’t want to fall in love with a dress that you believe is available, only to be met with a surprise in the register. Always (constantly!) Examine the price of everything before you attempt on it. If the purchase price is outside your budget, return it before you walk in the dressing room.
#5 Jump the Shoes
Macy’s is my go-to shop for deals on clothes, but I have not done very well in the shoe section. I usually spend time searching for a deal and leave with nothing. (If you have had another experience, talk about in the remarks.) Forget the shoe department entirely and devote your time working on the sale racks.
#6 Check Prices Online
After you’ve picked out your favorite pieces in the store, check the costs of these items on Macys.com. If there’s a price that is lower on the internet, inquire in the register if they will honor the web price. Items is going to be tricky to find online, on stocked items this way, but you might discover some savings.
#7 Connect into In-store Wi-Fi
I learned this trick whilst awaiting my hubby to try on clothes. Log in to Macy’s Wi-Fi and you may (cross your fingers) be offered a voucher on the spot. It only requires a few seconds — well worthwhile if you are rewarded with a 10% off coupon.
#8 Request for Coupons at Checkout
Nobody knows what’s available better than the hard-working people at the register. Ask them if they have and what is available. You’ll be amazed how many times you get a response.
