How to Shop: Nasty Gal

If you’ve never seen (or heard of) Nasty Gal, you could now be questioning TBF’s criteria for fashion and social decorum. The title is at first glance a little naughty, or at least a little off-putting. But when you’ve arrived, you will see that Nasty Gal isn’t about, well, bein nah-stay, but being fah-bulous. And ferocious. And just a little bit understated. We’re in.

The retailer features clothes at prices which range from quite affordable to on-the-verge-of-splurge. The site design is clean, current and easy to navigate, however as each budget fashionista knows, getting blinded by clever and pretty look-books descriptions may lead direct to spending, and that is always a fashion. So to help make sure that those new to Nasty Gal are prepared to shop responsibly (it’s our life work), we’ve compiled some tips to make the most of your Nasty Gal experience.

Tips When Shopping Nasty Gal

Straight to the Sale Tab. Some of the cost points on Nasty Gal are way outside the super-budget shopping we prefer, so we go directly to the sales–which, in this particular circumstance, are often magnificent. Unlike some websites, whose sale page is populated with 14 measly items (that are available because nobody in their right mind would purchase them), Nasty Gal’s sale section is more extensive, and includes tons of fabulous pieces, many of which can be deeply discounted. This super sexy, on-trend crossover for instance, might be much more than we want to spend at the initial cost, but just $19 at 50% of it off? A steal.

Work the Free Shipping Angle. Like many sites we frequent these days, Nasty Gal offers free delivery on sort of an ongoing basis with a minimum purchase (in their own case, in this writing, it is $75). Which, while we love free, can also be a chief cause of overspending–when you were initially only going to buy that cute little black shift dress on sale for $24.50, you are currently tempted to spend 50 bucks more to avoid that annoying $6 shipping price. Which makes very little sense but you know we have done it–or perhaps that’s just us. Anyhoo — our suggestion to get the free? Combine your order with a buddy or 2 to make that mark –you each get and nobody pays for transport. Everyone wins (like your bank accounts )!

Clip Those Coupons. Well, being online, there’s more clicking than cutting edge involved, but like many savvy online shoppers we live and die by the voucher code, regardless of what site we are shopping on. While at the time of this writing, there were no active Nasty Gal coupon codes on our regular haunts (such as RetailMeNot), in the past we have seen codes to get an extra 50 percent off sale items.

DON’T Dowload the Terrible Gal App. Retailer programs are there for one reason and one reason only–for you to store more. It’s waaaay to easy, once you’re tired and scroll through your telephone, to click that app and immediately fall in love with that Sherpa coat you SIMPLY MUST HAVE. You know. Shopping programs make it much like a match — we say if you’re bored, visit Pinterest and dream a bit. Like most of shopping, we advise you to shop with planning and intent, and Nasty Gal is no different.
