The Morbid Jewelry Trend That’s on the Upswing
Say you compliment a friend on the wonderful ring she has only started wearing, and she tells you it’s cremation jewelry.
Um, what now?
Yep, that’s right — cremation jewelry is a thing and it is growing in popularity. The title gives it away, but just to be clear: diamonds which are formed from ashes are used by cremation jewelry. And these fires, well, they come in the remains of a loved one.
It might appear strange and slightly morbid to flip your relative, friend or pet. But it’s time we rethink our death practices. I like the notion of transitioning into a permanent and gorgeous piece of jewelry after I am gone. It seems better than hiding out in a underground, or in an urn on the mantle. There is an perk too — the jewelry procedure can be more affordable than a conventional burial.
Cremation diamonds are also indistinguishable from natural diamonds. Unless you choose to talk about it, no one will know the diamond is artificial or produced from ashes. There’s no need. You can wear your cremation piece like any other slice of jewelry that is beautiful.
Cremation Jewelry: The Amounts
Here is the scoop on the price of a diamond. A 0.10 Carat yellow- or orange-toned cremation diamond will cost significantly less than $2,000. The stone can then be put from earrings to bracelets into whatever rings.
Something flashier, say a full carat, brilliant white diamond will run you about $17,295. That is a large chunk of change for sure, and undoubtedly more costly than buying jewelry that is regular out of Macy’s or even Kay Jewelers. But compared to some funeral, which could run $10,000 or more to you, it’s not unreasonable. And, of course, you wind up with a meaningful stone that you could wear.
Rising Popularity
Throughout the last decade, cremation jewelry sales show the tendency. It might be its economics. Or it might be that our society that is Insta-ready is gravitating towards more visual representations of grief and love.
Or the increase is a result of the growing issues surrounding natural diamonds. When you purchase a diamond, you don’t have any idea if it is a battle stone, used to fund wars and dictatorships. Synthetic diamonds, including cremation stones, do not have those difficulties clearly. They provide the same quality bling without the related guilt.
